Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo) are the only two U.S. marshal who is sent to an island in the Massachusetts area called Shutter Island to investigate a missing woman named Rachel Solando (Emily Mortimer).Shutter Island is actually an island that served as hospitals for the care of the inmates who suffer from mental disorders. Before disappearing, she had left a message that says 'What happened to the 67 patients'. Teddy sure that this message has nothing to do with the loss of Rachel and determined to explore this case.
Unfortunately, not all interested parties resolve this case. In fact, the mental hospital there refused to give assistance. Teddy finally felt suspicious that the hospitals involved in a case and did not want her in because it would reveal something that has long been hidden. Unfortunately, Teddy was not among those who easily give up. Coupled with a storm that covered the possibility to leave the island, there was no choice except for Teddy's investigation continues.
